This is the first segment of Gurley Watch, a quick weekly update on all things Todd Gurley that will run every Tuesday of the NFL season.
Todd Gurley and the Los Angeles Rams have started the season 2-0 following Sunday’s win over the New Orleans Saints.
The game was a rematch from last season’s NFC Championship game where the Rams moved on to the Super Bowl following a blown call that went against the Saints late in the game.
This year’s version was similarly disastrous for New Orleans as it lost both the game — 27-9 — and quarterback Drew Brees for at least six weeks with a thumb injury.
For the Rams and their star running back, things got back on track after many wondered if the Tarboro native was healthy following a light workload to open the season. He got 16 carries on Sunday and he scored his first rushing touchdown of the season when he ran in from 4 yards out late in the third quarter to break a 6-6 tie.
L.A. would score two more touchdowns before the end of the game to earn a comfortable win. Gurley led all rushers with 63 yards and a touchdown. He also added three catches for four yards.
The former Tarboro High standout has 160 yards on the season with one score. Following Sunday’s games, the league’s rushing leader is Minnesota’s Dalvin Cook (265 yards and three touchdowns).
The Rams are currently seventh in the NFL in points per game (28.5) and rushing yards per game (140.5).
