Woman assaulted with tire iron

A woman has been arrested in connection with a recent aggravated assault in which she allegedly beat another woman with a tire iron.

According to information recently released by the Rocky Mount Police Department, police were called about 11:36 p.m. on Aug. 15 to a residence on the 600 block of Park Avenue to assist EMS with a call. They arrived to find a woman being treated for injuries related to an earlier call about two women fighting on the 700 block of East Grant Street.

The 39-year-old woman had suffered injuries to her head and arm from trying to block the tire iron, she said. She was treated at the scene and transported to Nash UNC Health Care for further treatment.

The woman named her assailant as Belinda Gupton, 34. Gupton was arrested and jailed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center, although the exact charges and bond amount are unknown at this time.
