A husband and wife were arrested Sunday by Rocky Mount police in connection with an armed robbery that took place earlier this month.

The incident took place about 11 p.m. June 7 at the Goldrock Food Mart on the 1200 block of Goldrock Road in Rocky Mount. Two armed suspects reportedly entered the store and forced a 54-year-old male clerk to open the safe at gunpoint and then restrained him. They then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Kevon Elvonte Pettaway, 23, and his wife, Niya Nicole Pettaway, 23, were arrested in connection with the crime just after midnight Sunday on the 1300 block of Niblick Drive.

Both were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony second-degree kidnapping for their alleged role in the incident. Kevon Pettaway and Niya Pettaway were each jailed under $250,000 secured bonds in the Nash County Detention Center.

Kevon Pettaway previously had been arrested by Rocky Mount police just three days before the robbery occurred. Police officers served a warrant on Pettaway on June 4. That warrant was served in connection with a Greenville case for "offenses against family-child abuse." The warrant was served on Pettaway at the same location on the 1300 block of Niblick Drive. No further details of that case are available.

The robbery on Goldrock Road is still under investigation. Anyone with information concerning this crime is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111 or crimestoppers@rockymountnc.gov.
