A local businesswoman this weekend is opening a place in Rocky Mount where people can have space for business seminars, birthday parties, graduation parties and weddings at reasonable prices.

Sandra Bryant-Richardson is going to be the owner and operator of the Platinum Room Event & Entertainment Venue in Benvenue Plaza off Jeffreys Road just north of Golden East Crossing mall. The ceremonial opening is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Bryant-Richardson, 47, said the new business resulted from an event planning business called Platinum Paparazzi.

“I always wanted to create a nice family, personal, private event location that’s affordable, that the community can come out, enjoy — and have a nice, elegant location to entertain and celebrate with their loved ones,” Bryant-Richardson said.

She had been planning the Platinum Room Event & Entertainment Venue for approximately three to four years and found a location in the past 30 days.

“And I created and developed exactly what I wanted,” she said.

This is going to be an addition to a list of Bryant-Richardson’s enterprises. She is in the home health agency business, the real estate business, the rental property business, has a nursing agency and a mobile food catering truck.

As for how she can keep so many ventures going at one time, she said, “Teamwork.”

Additionally, she offers the following advice to those who want to enter the business world: “I think no matter what you feel, how much you know, you should always take a business financial class.”

She also said people should always take a branding and marketing class because they will be at a loss without the know-how to brand and grow a business.

And she said she does a lot in the community to help others.

“So in giving support, you receive support back,” she said.

Assisting in promoting the Platinum Room Event & Entertainment Venue is Bryant-Richardson’s sister, Marilyn Bryant-Tucker.

Bryant-Tucker, 51, is a Rocky Mount native and a marketing consultant who presently calls Raleigh home.

Bryant-Tucker’s prior experience includes having specialized in event marketing — and she also is an author.

She said that she and her family know there is a need for affordable event space in the Rocky Mount area and said people are already phoning about wanting to rent space.

“And it’s a very nice space,” she said. “It’s an intimate space. It can accommodate up to 150 people, banquet style. People can come and use it and turn it into their own event. And that’s what people like.”

She also said plans are for the place to host live jazz musicians and comedians on the first Friday of every month.

She spoke of the place being staged for Saturday’s opening, with champagne and cocktails to be served.

“It’s set for 100-plus people to sit down to eat. It’s beautifully decorated with white linen tablecloths and a beautiful chandelier hanging from the ceiling,” she said. “It’s going to have a purple carpet, just like you are going to a red-carpet event.

“It’s going to be a very nice event.”
