Thursday, March 14, 2019
Two area athletes, Lillian Pruden and Harriet Buss recently set new all time cycling speed records at the North Carolina Senior Games in Raleigh. Pruden set records in her age group in the one mile, and the five and ten kilometer races, while Buss broke the record in her age group in the ten kilometer race. Pruden is an active ironman triathlete, while Buss concentrates in long distance cycling such as the ride across the United States in 2017.
To qualify for state level competition each athlete had to, compete at the Downeast
Senior Games. The Downeast Senior Games are held each year within the local five county area and will be held again this spring. Most of the events will be held in Rocky Mount, and feature most popular events such as; track and field, cycling, swimming, bowling, team sports and more. Participants must be at least 50 years of age and compete within their five year age group. Applications are available at local senior centers.
