Southern Nash will meet a familiar foe in the second round of the Class 3-A playoffs.

The top-seeded Firebirds earned a 38-6 win over visiting No. 16 seed E.E. Smith on Thursday, which set up a home game in the second round against No. 8 Northern Nash next week.

Jackson Vick led the way for Southern Nash (12-0) with three touchdowns, including a 55-yard run to cap the scoring. Vick also caught a 64-yard touchdown pass from Matt Foster.

Daylon Whitley also had two rushing touchdowns for the Firebirds.

East Bladen 13

The Cougars took care of business and earned a berth in the second round of the Class 2-A playoffs with a win over No. 15 East Bladen.

No. 2 SWE led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, then took a 27-7 lead into halftime. Leading rusher Cortezz Jones had two touchdowns in the first half, while Demari Mabry and Keishon Porter also added first-half scores.

SWE (11-1) will host No. 7 Whiteville next week. Whiteville was a 41-7 winner over No. 10 Wallace-Rose Hill.

Nash Central 20

The Bulldogs season ended on Thursday night in the first round of the Class 2-AA playoffs.

No. 15 Nash Central (5-7) led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, but couldn’t keep No. 2 Washington off the scoreboard in the second frame. The Bulldogs allowed 15 points in the second quarter and trailed 15-6 heading into halftime.

Nash Central scored 14 points in the second half, but allowed 20 in the loss. The Bulldogs were in the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
