SouthWest Edgecombe needed a win to finish first in the Eastern Plains Conference. All the Cougars had to do was get past fellow conference unbeaten Wilson Beddingfield to do so.
SWE did just that in a 60-22 win.
The Cougars (10-1, 5-0) entered the game with three consecutive shutout wins, and kept Beddingfield off the scoreboard in the first quarter while taking a 13-0 lead.
The shutout streak ended in the second quarter when the Bruins found the end zone twice, but SWE more than kept pace with 33 points of its own in the same frame. Cortezz Jones scored four touchdowns in the win for the Cougars, who have played themselves into a few home playoff games.
Southern Nash 49
The Firebirds (11-0, 5-0) finished their fourth consecutive unbeaten season in Big East Conference play with Friday’s home win.
There was little doubt in the outcome as Southern Nash took a 35-7 lead into halftime. Jasono Bland had two touchdowns in the first half, and quarterback Matt Foster ripped off a 69-yard touchdown run to open the third quarter.
The Vikings earned a road conference win to wrap up their third consecutive undefeated regular season.
Tarboro (11-0, 6-0) will head into the playoffs as the likely top seed in the 1-AA East playoffs when seedings come out on Saturday.

The Jaguars earned an important win for the program in the final game of the season.
RMP (4-6, 2-4) secured the elusive fourth win that had been the goal for years. The Jaguars had never won more than three games in any season until Friday.
