SouthWest Edgecombe continues to pile up impressive wins.

On Friday, the Cougars defeated Corinth Holders, 20-13, in what was the final non-conference game for SWE before Eastern Plains Conference games begin next week.

The Cougars (5-1) held a 13-7 lead with 1:06 left before Corinth Holders (4-2) had a first and goal from the SWE 1. The Pirates needed just one play to score on a 1-yard run. SWE blocked the extra point attempt to keep the score tied at 13-13, then went to work.

The Cougars went on to score in the game’s final minute and hang on to defeat the Class 4-A Pirates. It was the second time this season that SWE defeated a Class 4-A team. The Cougars also have a win over 3-A Northern Nash on their resume, too.

Tarboro 42

South Creek 0

The Vikings opened Coastal Plains Conference play with a win.

Tarboro (6-0, 1-0) also picked up its fourth shutout this season, as the Vikings defense has allowed just 13 points through six games.

Next up for the Vikings is a road game next week at Chocowinity Southside.

North Edgecombe 46

Northampton County 28

North Edgecombe is on a roll. The Warriors (4-3, 2-0) have now won three consecutive games, and the first two in Tar Roanoke Conference play.

The Warriors were tied 16-16 in the first half, only to connect on a 55-yard passing touchdown late in the first half to push their lead to 24-16. They never trailed again.

Rocky Mount Prep 50

Northwest Halifax 34

Rocky Mount Prep got back in the win column with a convincing win in Tar Roanoke Conference play.

The Jaguars (2-3, 1-1) led by 10 points at 44-34 with around six minutes left in the game, and didn’t let NW Halifax get any closer. RMP snapped a three-game losing streak with the win.

Rocky Mount Academy 28

Cary Christian 8

RMA earned its first win of the season on Friday. The Eagles snapped a six-game losing streak, and the eight points allowed are the fewest allowed by the Eagles in any game.

Cary Christian drops to 4-3 with the loss.
