SouthWest Edgecombe hasn’t had any trouble scoring points through the first two weeks of the football season.

The points-scoring machine that is the Cougars’ earned a 62-27 victory against South Central on Wednesday, in a non-conference game that was moved up from Friday due to the threat of weather from Hurricane Dorian.

SWE (2-0) has scored a total of 116 points over its first two games and has allowed 41.

South Central (2-1), a 4-A school which handed the Cougars one of their two regular season losses last season, couldn’t keep up with a 2-A SWE team that is playing strong defense while scoring points in bunches.

The Cougars led 7-0 just four minutes into the game, then led 13-0 with 2:57 left in the first quarter. It was all SWE from there.

The Cougars travel to Bertie next week before hosting Tarboro in the Function at the Junction on Sept. 20.

The Warriors earned their first win of the season on Wednesday.

North Edgecombe (1-2) picked up a road non-conference victory to halt a string of two losses to open the season.

The Warriors took advantage of early mistakes when a snap on a Jaguars punt attempt soared over the punter’s head and led to a Warriors score. Later in the first half, North Edgecombe returned an interception for a touchdown to take a 28-0 lead with 1:30 remaining in the first half.

The Warriors would score again before halftime, this time using a flea-flicker play with one second remaining in the second quarter to take a 34-0 lead into the break. NE would score again in the second half to start a running clock.

North Edgecombe is back in action on Sept. 13 when it hosts Tarboro.
