The Rocky Mount Academy baseball team defeated rival Faith Christian, 4-1, on Tuesday in a home NCISAA Coastal Conference game.

The Eagles (8-3, 3-0) won their fourth consecutive game, a stretch they will have an opportunity to grow with a road game at Wilson Community Christian on Thursday.

FCS (8-3, 3-1), the two-time defending 2-A state champions, had its five-game winning streak snapped with the loss. The Patriots are back in action on Thursday at home against Harrells Christian Academy.

The two teams will play again one more time in the regular season on May 2.


Wilson Hunt 14, Rocky Mount High 0

Rocky Mount High (1-12, 0-7) lost a Big East Conference game on the road.

The game was scoreless after one inning, but the Gryphons allowed an 11-run second inning and the Warriors cruised to a five-inning win.

Southern Nash 1, Northern Nash 0

Southern Nash (8-6, 3-4) earned a home Big East Conference win on Tuesday.

Nef Gonzalez scored the lone goal of the match for the Firebirds with 16:47 remaining in the first half. Southern Nash’s 1-0 lead stood, as the defense turned away several scoring chances in the second half by the Knights (4-9, 1-6).

Wilson Hunt 2, Rocky Mount High 0

Rocky Mount High (7-6, 4-3) lost a Big East Conference game to the Warriors in Wilson.

It was the second time this season the Gryphons lost to Hunt (9-1, 6-0), though the score was much closer than the 5-0 loss on March 29.

On Tuesday, the score was tied 0-0 at halftime, before Hunt scored both of its goals in the second half.

Nash Central 1, SouthWest Edgecombe 0

In a tight Eastern Plains Conference game that needed penalty kicks to decide, Nash Central secured its fourth consecutive win.

The Bulldogs (5-5, 4-1) have won two of their past four games in penalty kicks, and won Tuesday’s by a 4-1 decision.

Bianca Ricks, Mallory Roughton, Hailey Dinota and Sarah Radjail each made their PK shots for Nash Central.

SWE falls to 7-5, 2-4.

Rocky Mount Academy 8, Faith Christian 0

Rocky Mount Academy used a big second half to power past the rival Patriots in a home NCISAA Coastal Conference win.

The Eagles (11-2, 8-1) led 2-0 at halftime, then poured in six goals in the second half. Division I recruit Barrett Eidson, who’s headed to UNC Asheville, scored three goals for RMA, while teammate Caroline Gay added two goals.

The Patriots fell to 2-8, 1-5.
