Knights' Richardson 9th at state cross country
Saturday, November 3, 2018
Jordan Richardson made the most out of his fourth and final trip to the cross country state meet.
The Northern Nash senior on Saturday finished ninth in the 3-A meet, covering the 3.2-mile course in a season-best 16:08, blowing past his previous-best mark set two weeks ago during the Big East Conference meet.
At the 3-A East Regional the following week Richardson finished second, but with a time he wasn’t proud of and vowed to improve at state. He followed through.
Richardson’s Top 10 finish was a step up from a stellar junior year where he took 12th. Richardson led the Knights, who competed as a team and finished 13th out of 24.
Teammate Jospeh Dees was 64th with a time of 17:22.10, followed by Matt Wright (96th, 17:50.31), Justin Marshall (115th, 18:01.57), William Raynor (153rd, 18:47.89), Kamden Johnson (168th, 19:13.67) and Chance Savage (170th, 19:15.93).
Weddington, Chapel Hill and Mount Tabor finished 1-2-3, respectively. The individual winner was East Chapel Hill’s George Hotelling with a time of 15:46.92.
Elsewhere in the boys’ 3-A meet, Southern Nash lone representative Shamir Small finished with a time of 18:06.95.
In the girls’ race, Southern Nash freshman Jadiza Jimenez was the top local finisher in 41st with a time of 20:18.66. That time was two seconds off her 3-A East Regional time.
Northern Nash also sent freshman Elana Griffin, who finished the course in 21:43.14 to place 106th.
The top 3-A girls’ finisher was Madeline Hill with a time of 18:11.52. Hill guided Cuthbertson High School to the team title, followed by Chapel Hill and Weddington.
