Ebenezer Baptist Church recently announced that Pernell Griffin Jr. is this year’s recipient of the Joyce N. Walker Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
In 2017, the Ebenezer Deaconess Ministry established the Joyce N. Walker Scholarship Fund to honor the memory and legacy of First Lady Joyce N. Walker. First Lady Walker was a strong advocate for education. Having founded the EBC Child Care Center, she positively impacted the lives of hundreds of youth
Pernell is a graduate of Northern Nash High School and plans to attend Winston-Salem State University in the fall majoring in mass communications with a concentration in video and sound production.
Pernell stated in his application, “I was first introduced to media right here at Ebenezer Baptist Church and have been volunteering in the Media Ministry for the last three years. I hope to one day own my own production company.”
Pernell is also a part of the Ebenezer Mime and Youth Ministries. Pernell is also active in the community. He previously served as NAACP Youth Council president and is a member of the Rocky Mount City Youth Council and the Educational Talent Search Trio Program. He is also the 2019 winner of the Kappa Beautillion Millitaire Scholarship Program.
The Joyce N. Walker Scholarship is awarded to students who have been actively involved in Ebenezer’s Youth Ministry for at least one year and who plan to continue their education at a 2- or 4-year postsecondary school. We are proud of Pernell and wish him continued success.
