City reschedules compost giveaway

From Staff Reports

Tuesday, July 9, 2019

The city’s Public Works Department will host its July compost giveaway on Friday and Saturday at 394 Arrow Road.

The compost giveaway normally is held on the first Friday and first Saturday of each month from April to October, but it was moved back a week this month in observance of the July 4 holiday.

Compost is made when leaves from the city of Rocky Mount’s loose leaf collection program are processed and decay into an organic material used to improve soil structure and provide nutrients. Residents may use compost to improve areas of poor soil quality.

The compost site is best accessed by making the second right after crossing the I-95 bridge on Sunset Avenue, if traveling west. Arrow Road will turn into a dirt street, and the compost site is located on the left after approximately one quarter of a mile.
