Growth, Dedication, Commitment — these are the words that best describe the journey of the Foundation Builders Academy since it opened its doors in May 2017.
The facility is an institution of learning for children ages 1-5.
Foundation Builders Academy is committed to successfully executing its mission statement of building a foundation by giving children the tools they need to succeed in life by teaching cultural diversity and assisting the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of each child. The staff aims to provide a safe, supportive and nurturing atmosphere where all children are able to express their creativity freely.
The staff prides themselves with our motto of "setting the foundation for early learning education." This is accomplished daily by a staff that is dedicated to the academy’s mission. Every person that walks through the doors each day are part of their community and family and actively working together to enrich the lives of our children.
Owner Frenchy Davis has managed to bring to fruition his dream of opening a quality child-care facility in Edgecombe County. Davis and his staff have managed to maintain steady growth, beginning with an enrollment of three children in the summer of 2017 to 11 children by November 2017.
Current enrollment is 28 students and still growing. Recently, Davis was able to expand the regular program by housing another program called the N.C. Pre-Kindergarten, which is mandated by the state and found in the local school system and provides and education experience to at-risk 4-year olds with the goal of preparing them for kindergarten.
A sign of steady growth and accomplishments for hard work was marked by being able to house this program as it is awarded to those local facilities that meet eligibility requirements. These goals and growth have been accomplished by adhering to the academy’s motto, "Setting the foundation for early education."
Foundation Builders Academy's growth is credited to the staff members who have embraced the mission statement and motto. They have the heart and commitment for educating young minds, they understand the developmental stages and the need of the children they serve. They are taught emotional skills, self-help skills and social skills of interaction with adults and peers.
The Foundation Builders Academy works to build a strong relationship with parents by offering them a live video feed to classrooms, which enables them to chime in on what's going on inside their child's classroom. The ratio is one teacher to eight children, which allows for more individualized attention.
The DOJO app is used by teacher as a daily tool of communication. Several screening tools are used to monitor the children’s progress and conferences set up to report each child’s growth and goals set for further development. Progress is monitored often and reports sent home every six weeks, followed by report cards each grading period.
“We feel it is of extreme importance parents knowledge of their child’s growth and progress consistently in order to continue and plan further growth and improvement in all areas,” Davis said.
Davis said he and his staff feel privileged and excited to continue to serve the community by helping model the lives of young minds through constant growth and a foundation of education.
The academy’s operating hours are from 6:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday. It is currently enrolling for the second shift.
